Volunteering For Hands on Parenting
Support
To become a
volunteer “Community Parent” for
the Hands on Parenting Support
program you must meet the
following criteria:
- You must have first hand
parenting experience.
- You must be willing to
have a Police check and a
Working With Children check.
- We ask for a commitment
of 4 hours per week for a
minimum of 6 months. The 4
hours each week includes 2
hours visiting a family,
travel time, time involved
in administrative duties and
time involved in attending
team meetings and
supervision.
- You must be prepared to
attend a six-day training
course. Training is free and
is held one day per week for
6 weeks. Areas covered in
the training include
communication skills, early
childhood development,
parenting skills, health,
nutrition, safety of young
children and community
resources for parents.
- You must be willing to
visit families with new
babies or children up to 5
years of age and work to
support and encourage them
in their parenting role.
