Social Support
Participation in
sport or recreational programs provides
opportunities for socialising, building
friendship networks, reducing social
isolation and enhancing community
wellbeing. This ultimately leads to
improved physical and mental health.
Doncare's Social
Support Program is a social support
program targeted at frail older
people . The aim of the program
is to prevent social isolation
and provide social
opportunities to people who may be
household bound or isolated due to
mobility difficulties or among other
factors. The program has made a positive
impact on a large number of clients as
their community participation
is a key element to their
sense of wellbeing and the
health of the community
generally.
The Department Of
Human Services through the Home and
Community Care Program (HACC) funds the
Social Support Program. The HACC Program
was established to assist people with
disabilities and older people to remain
at home.
There are
10 Social Support Groups . The
groups operate on weekdays and on
Saturday. Doncare volunteers transport
clients to and from the social groups
and support them during the activity. If
you would like to volunteer for Social
Support Program, find out more in our
Volunteering for Social Support
section .
Manningham Community Health Service
works in partnership with Doncare to
provide transport for the Social Support
Program.
