Hands on Parenting Support
What is Hands on
Parenting Support?
Hands on Parenting Support is a free,
parent support program for parents with
new babies or young children (under 5
years), living in Manningham.
All parents need support at some time
in the challenging job of caring for
their children. Not all parents have
people around who can help out, and
that’s where the Hands on Parenting
program comes in.
Hands on Parenting can help:
- Make it easier to enjoy being a
parent
- Lessen frustration and stress
- Reduce isolation
- Increase confidence and
knowledge
- Lessen strain in personal
relationships
- Increase awareness of local
supports and services
How does Hands on Parenting Support
work?
Trained volunteers, known as
community parents, who are parents or
grandparents themselves, provide support
to families one or two hours a week.
Community parents live in the same
general area as the families and are
familiar with local supports and
services.
A professional co-ordinator,
experienced with families, selects,
trains, supervises and supports the
community parents.
Families meet with the co-ordinator
to discuss the kind of assistance
needed, before being linked to a
community parent. Support is planned to
suit the individual needs of each
family.
If you would like to volunteer as a
community parent in your local area,
