Chinese Family Playgroup
What is Chinese Family Playgroup?
 A popular weekly playgroup for
Chinese families living in the Cities of
Manningham or Whitehorse.
The children enjoy a variety of
activities and excursions, whilst their
parents or grandparents enjoy chatting
to one another in their own language.
A playgroup coordinator is also
present, and will occasionally arrange
guest speakers to come and speak to
parents on topics of interest.
Additionally, she will refer families to
other services in the Eastern Region as
required.
How can playgroups help?
Both adults and children can gain
from a regular playgroup session, a time
of interactive play for parents, babies
and children all joining in activities,
making friends and sharing experiences.
At playgroups, babies and children
can:
- develop a sense of sharing and
co-operation through play
- increase their social skills
- participate in new experiences
- interact with other adults
- learn simple rules and routines
- improve their problem solving
abilities
- have fun on outings
- listen to stories
- participate in indoor and
outdoor free play and
- learn more about their world

Playgroup is also a place for parents
and carers to:
- meet other local families and
share ideas and experiences
- relax and talk in a friendly
atmosphere
- develop new friendships
- play with children and nurture a
spirit of co-operation
- take up opportunities for
personal development and
add variety to your week.
